Turn your talent on.
A course for Brighton's most aspiring and dedicated young performers.
The Company
Performance Industry Platform was founded by Brighton born and bred Charlie Royce and Laura Waggott, two friends with a shared passion for the Performing Arts Industry.
The pair went through secondary education together before both attending one of the UK's most acclaimed vocational dance schools; 'London Studio Centre'. Upon graduation Charlie and Laura have both been lucky enough to work successfully and steadily within the performing arts industry both in performance and production. It was over a long distance Skype call to each other between London and Tokyo that the couple decided to create a course aimed at young aspiring talented performers
The difference between our programme and others? To answer the questions and share the insider secrets that we wished we had been told all those years ago. Is there a right or wrong way to approach an interview at a vocational college? I didn't get in to my college of choice last year, so what should I do differently? I'm an actor first, so how do I get through the dance audition? What NOT to wear to an audition and many more…
And so the Performance Industry Platform was created. For the performers, by the performers. With some help from our very talented friends as guest teachers who can be seen in theatres across the UK and London's West End (both on stage and in the casting seats!) We hope to shed some light on what really goes on in the entertainment business through workshops, seminars and mock auditions.
The aim? To have fun and grow as performers. To help prepare, encourage, nurture and support the next generation of performers through what can be a really nervous and daunting process...
PiP is an intensive four week course that provides talented and young performers with an opportunity to prepare themselves for a career in the performance industry. Its focus is on the audition techniques and skills needed to acquire a place at the UKs most prestigious vocational performance colleges and universities, whilst also providing an enthusiastic and fun learning environment in which to encourage and nurture exciting new talent.
Spread over four consecutive Sundays, the course aims to focus each week on a different area of the performing arts industry. Each week students will engage in interactive workshops taught by some of the UK's most experienced and successful industry professionals within Dance, TV, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Film and Casting.
Students will kick the day off at PiP with a physical warm up and conditioning relevant to the area of performance they will be focusing on that day. They will then partake in a three hour workshop with an industry professional. Workshop material will range from learning musical numbers directly from West End shows, to working with a casting director on audition technique or with actors on text work from plays, television and film. Every week we aim to bring as different a learning opportunity as possible and for those wishing to continue with us, no two courses will be the same.
The last part of the day will vary from week to week depending on the needs of each individual student participating in the course. We will use this time to help with finding, learning and developing monologues and audition songs, as well as providing the latest information on vocational courses, schools, funding and performance opportunities.
On completion of the four week programme we will ensure that every student leaves not only feeling more confident and prepared for the next step towards their goals, but more determined and focused than ever. We at PiP will continue to be available to provide guidance and support to PiP students through and beyond the duration of the course... We hope to follow each one of our students’ journeys on their path to success.
A solid support system is one of the most important factors in order to survive in such a tough industry, and we at PiP couldn't think of anything more satisfying than watching young talent grow and succeed.
